ARMC’s Cancer Center Recognized by the American College of Surgeons. Alamance Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Center has once again received approval from The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer receive this special approval. The Cancer Center is also only one of eight centers in North Carolina that have held this designation since 1989.
Facilities must commit to provide the best in diagnosis and treatment of cancer and to undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of performance to receive approval from the Commission on Cancer. In order to maintain approval, facilities must undergo an on-site review every three years.
“Our staff works very hard to make sure patients receive not only leading-edge treatment, but also the most compassionate care,” says Brendan Fitzpatrick, Administrative Director of ARMC’s Cancer Center. “We are very proud of this designation.”
The Cancer Center staff includes board-certified medical oncologists and hematologists, a board-certified radiation oncologist, a radiation physicist, pharmacist, registered radiation therapy technologists, and certified oncology and chemotherapy nurses. Surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and a comprehensive list of dedicated, experienced personal work as a multidisciplinary team to coordinate the best treatment options available.
Patients at ARMC’s Cancer Center regularly participate in national clinical trials. Last year the center became one of the first in the area to begin the latest radiation therapy technique, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). IMRT helps preserve healthy tissue while targeting radiation to the exact spots needed.
